MAKING A CHANGE IN MY RELIGIOUS INSTITUTION 1

By: Cephas Tetteh Kuwornu

The religion or various religious denominations are one of the social institutions which constitute the purpose for human life. God in his own way created man in his own image and likeness and blessed him to have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. This tells that there is a particular purpose for you being placed in that particular religious denomination but not any other one. As every group here on earth has that vision of increasing its membership and also to assist and provide the necessary material needs and security to its members based on how the members fulfill certain conditions necessary for the growth and sustenance of the group so it is in the family of God here on earth.  The major task of every member of this family is to reach out the true or sound word to people outside there which signifies the fulfillment of a condition in the family of God. For this purpose, God has been close to us as the family head.

Interestingly, the fall of man brought about a bridge or gap which separated man from God. However through different people and means (Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, The Judges and The Prophets) God in His greater grace and mercies was willing to restore and reconcile man to his former glorious state. As all this efforts never materialized, God sent His only begotten son even Jesus Christ, to redeem humanity from the power and consequences of sin.

After Jesus Christ fulfilling the will of His father, He then brought us (the church) together as a denomination. The only thing He requested from us is to go and tell our neighbour that Jesus Christ love him/her.

Essentially, the prophecy about the life of Jesus Christ (His birth, His life and ministry, His death on the cross for our sins, His burial and resurrection, His ascension and second coming) are the cardinal marks underlying how to reach out the message. Evangelism therefore is simply spreading, preaching, proclaiming or propagating the Good News about the Lord Jesus Christ.

But on more serious note, proclaiming Jesus Christ to the public goes beyond speaking out the inspired written word. In 1st Timothy 4:12 and 1st Peter 3:1-2 (NIV) we understand that if words fail; behavior, purity and reverence should be used to bring the CHANGE.

I believe that in the Post-modernist concept where the person wants to see before believing, the way to make a change in the life of this very generation of people is to apply the readings in 1st Timothy 4:12 and 1st Peter 3:1-2.

Total failure on the part of some men calls for the questions:

  • Who are the men standing in the gap?
  • Who is making that change?

Beloved, it is you that upcoming youth. Have you ever wondered why sin is so predominant in our times? Have you equally bothered to find out that the God who punished the sins of yesterday has not change and so would He punish the sins of today and tomorrow? Again, is it that mankinds (the saved and unsaved) are taking God’s grace and mercies of this dispensation for granted?

Brethren, God is still looking for intercessors that will stand in the gap on behalf of the church, family and the nation. May you be that person! Being an intercessor is good and pleases God our savior who wants all men and women to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth and so to help other people to;

  • understand the content of the truth
  • preserve the truth and
  • Pass on the truth onto this generation and the generation beyond.

Referring you once again to the message of the servant of God which says “the devil that destroyed your father, mother and relatives is waiting patiently to destroy you as well.” I will like to share interestingly with you that my father was an ordained Elder in the church where many members look up to as role-model in the ministry of Christ Jesus but He later gave out His spiritual worship to a superficial worship and finally withdrawn himself from the church. This reminds me always to know the kind of commitment and dedication I give to the ministry of Christ to be able to cure that Generational Gap Syndrome.

My brothers and sisters, try to follow me as I share with you one of my secrets in this live. “I believe that the basis of our living on this earth is the word of God and because of that whatever you do to succeed genuinely has its codes and ethics in the cannons of the apostles. So, I do remind myself that the first commandment with promise went to us the young ones which can be found in the message to the Ephesians the chapter 6:1-3. With this, the writer helped us to explain the obedience to parents in 1st Timothy 5:1-4 by saying “do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity. Honor widows who are really widows. But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God.” As he wanted us to assess that promise of God and knowing the challenges accruing to youthful seasons, he continued to give us the best guidelines in his first message to Timothy the Youth which says let no one despise your youth, but be an example to others in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith and in purity.”

With this I remind you as you begin to renew your mind-set to fan into flames all the deposits in you to make a change in the ministry of Christ.

Remember you must be strong, get up and move on.
